Students should be identifying and using the appropriate symbol to distinguish between equal and not equal quantities.
Students should be identifying the equal symbol (=) as the symbol used to indicate that the values on either side are equal.
Students should be identifying the not equal symbol (?) as the symbol used to indicate that two values on either side are not equal.
Students should be identifying values and expressions that are equal.
Students should be identifying values and expressions that are not equal.
Students should be recognizing and using the relationship between addition and subtraction to solve single-step practical problems, with whole numbers to 20.
Students should be using a model to represent the relationship of two expressions of equal value and two expressions that are not equivalent.
Students should be writing the related facts for a given addition or subtraction fact (e.g., given 3 + 4 = 7, write 7 – 4 = 3 and 7 – 3 = 4).
