School Year:2024-2025

Students should be able to differentiate processes in the water/carbon/nitrogen cycles, provide examples of how they support life; develop/use a model to illustrate the cycling of matter/flow of energy among living/nonliving parts of ecosystem.
Analyze local aquatic/terrestrial ecosystems, identify biotic/abiotic components, and describe their roles in cycling matter/flow of energy.
Explain/provide examples to illustrate the cause/effect relationship of human activity on cycling matter/flow of energy in an ecosystem, explain matter and energy transfer as modeled through food webs and energy pyramids;
Interpret energy pyramids to determine the energy available at each trophic level and recognize examples of common producers/consumers/decomposers, explain the role of each in the flow of energy/cycling matter through an ecosystem
Provide examples to illustrate the effects of human activity on the activity of producers, consumers, and decomposers in an ecosystem.
