Students should be able to relate the importance of photosynthesis to the role of producers as the foundation of food webs; and construct explanations based on evidence for the role of photosynthesis in the cycling of matter and the flow of energy.
Plan and conduct an investigation related to photosynthesis; and explain how organisms use energy stored from the products of photosynthesis.
Demonstrate an understanding of the interaction of reactants/products/plant parts/cellular organelles in the process of photosynthesis and explain how the processes of photosynthesis/cellular respiration make energy available for life processes.
Provide evidence to demonstrate the interdependence of photosynthesis and cellular respiration, and discuss how matter and energy are conserved in chemical changes within biological systems (individual cells to ecosystems) .
Develop a model of cellular respiration to describe how food is rearranged through chemical reactions, forming new molecules that support growth and/or release energy as this matter moves through an organism.
