The students should be able to develop and/or use a model to illustrate the cycling of matter and flow of energy among living and nonliving parts of an ecosystem.
The students should be able to analyze local aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, identify biotic and abiotic components, and describe their roles in the cycling of matter and flow of energy.
The student should be able to explain and provide examples to illustrate the cause-and-effect relationship of human activity on the cycling of matter and flow of energy in an ecosystem.
Students should be able to explain matter and energy transfer as modeled through food webs and energy pyramids.
Students should be able to determine the relationship between a population’s position in a food web and its size.
